three-stars

Pixie and Levi haven't spoken in nearly a year when they find themselves working―and living―at the same inn in the middle of nowhere. Once upon a time, they were childhood friends. But that was before everything went to hell. And now things are... awkward.

All they want to do is avoid each other, and their past, for as long as possible. But now that they're forced to share a bathroom, and therefore ashower, keeping their distance from one another becomes less difficult than keeping their hands off each other. Welcome to the hallway of awkward tension and sexual frustration, folks. Get comfy. It’s going to be a long summer.

Review:

Best Kind of Broken is the first book in the Finding Fate trilogy, by new to me author, Chelsea Fine. Chelsea has written a fair few books it was actually by mistake that I came across this book, and I’m glad I did!

This is a new adult book, which is a little different from the regular contemporary romance that this author appears to write. It’s got a lot of steamy scenes, irresistible heartbreaking romance and a lot of angst.

Now I gotta be honest, this story is not original, and there’s nothing new here that you haven’t already read, and you’ll know the ending before page fifty, but that didn’t stop me from turning those pages, and it won’t stop you either. Best Kind of Broken is a very well written book, with a lot of humour thrown in and I really liked that about it, there is a wonderful fluidity within the writing and I was easily sucked into the story of Pixie and Levi.

Pixie and Levi share a heartbroken past, that drove a wedge between them, now they are thrown into a situation that leaves them playing upstairs and downstairs, but will Levi make into his lady’s chambers? Image may be NSFW.

;-)
Now, these two have an obvious connection from the start, like magnetics they are drawn to each but facing up to their feelings and giving in to themselves will only open up old wounds that none of them want to face. How can they ever forgive and learn to move on and love again?

Pixie and Levi are very likeable characters, and we get to see them via alternating points of view…. I have to say I was looking forward to Levi’s voice a lot more than Pixie’s, Levi is super hot!

When I was reading it almost felt like this book really has two halves, the first half is light, fluffy, humorous and getting to know these characters, and then the second it takes on a darker and deeper meaning, and it looses some of that light romance about it, and this is where I had some problems.

The decision making between these two and the angst and to and fro was a little annoying, I couldn’t understand why Pixie made choices that she did. Levi and Pixie did become frustrating with the circle they constantly went around in, there’d pick on each other and blame each other and then pick on each other some more, these two were in a real mess and they only had each other to blame!
But I did enjoy this book, it was easy to read (despite the annoying I want to slap them silly moments) and I will be looking out for more from this author.
