The #1 New York Times bestselling author returns to the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood as two brothers bound by more than blood fight to change a brutal destiny. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the s’Hisbe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer for years. On the run from a destiny of sexual servitude, he’s never been able to rely on anyone...except for his brother, iAm. iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing—and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Selena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around...but by then, it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due, and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating. Now Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others—or abandon the female he loves. When tragedy strikes and changes everything, iAm, in the name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice....

Quick Review:

I am a HUGE J.R. Ward and BDB fan…but after the last book, I wasn’t so sure about the fate of me and this series. I thought we MAY be breaking up. THANKFULLY I’m still hanging on. This book was much better and had me much more engaged than the last book, The King. Part could be that The King has always been my least favorite and I’ve always been curious about the Shadows so I was very intrigued going into this book.

Here is a list of my thoughts while listening (possible spoilers):

  1. I still hate the lessers POV
  2. Really…Selena?
  3. Good to know Trez and iAm background but I hate the back and forth between past and present
  4. Good to meet Paradise
  5. I like that the training center will now allow females
  6. Glad that it’s opening up again
  7. Qhuinn’s brother…kind of a dick!
  8. Xcor and Layla…ugh…what a clusterfuck!
  9. Throe is he really going to betray Xcor and the BoB?
  10. OMG the guys called Aballon, Apple Bottom LOL
  11. The Rhage and Throe pat down scene was hilarious!
  12. Fritz…..ohhh Fritz…he missed his calling in NASCAR!
  13. I can’t believe she’s going to kill her off
  14. I like Maichen
  15. Audio narrator, Jim Frangione is better this time around
  16. I am NOT liking this messed up side of Rhage
  17. What the hell is his problem?
  18. Yes, I didn’t cry!
  19. Boo….stop killing off shellans!
  20. I LOVE LOVE LOVE when the BDB and everyone comes together as FAMILY for one of their own.
  21. So great to “see” everyone again but hate that it’s in this scenario
  22. How is this iAm and Maichen thing going to work?
  23. S’ex…ugh…I feel for him.
  24. Assail wtf?
  25. Thank you J.R. Ward for not having a MILLION POVs in this book.
  26. Rhage better start manning up…I don’t like this whimpy real side. LOL I need my Hollywood back!
  27. Book wasn’t too bad. Quite enjoyable!

I look forward to THE BEAST…Rhage has always been a favorite of mine. I need my man to get right again!
