three-stars
#1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with a new heart-wrenching love story. When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered.Love gets ugly.

Review:

Ok, so I feel that my review of Ugly Love should come with a disclaimer : firstly, the way I have presented my review is accurate, your computer hasn’t gone wonky and secondly if you’re a MAHOOSIVE AAfan of Colleen Hoover then I suggest you turn away now ;-)

I like Colleen Hoover’s writing, she has an amazing gift, the power to bring characters to life and make them dance on a page and the feels…. ahhh the feels, CoHo certainly knows how to bring them! She is a master storyteller without a doubt. So, why the low rating?
Colleen Hoover has a lovely.
Lyrical way of writing.
It’s poetic.
And it’s almost like art itself.
I have seen this demonstrated.
In Slammed, the first book.
I ever read by this author.
I wouldn’t consider myself.
A fan of poetry but after.
Reading Slammed I was.
Colleen’s ability to twist
Poetry in a story was nothing
Short of brilliance.
In Slammed I got it.
I understood it.
In Ugly Love.
I despised it.
I felt like the.
Whole book was.
Written like this.
In short, blunt sentences.
It was stop, start.
Stop, start.
In Slammed the.
Poetry and lyrical.
Writing was infused.
In the story. It became
One with each other.
In Ugly Love I felt.
Like I was.
Being forced to.
Read. Like. This.
It was the only way.
I feel like I was torn in two.
Ripped apart.
And now, I hope you can understand.
Now, that is out of the way. I can honestly, hand on heart say, that if Ugly Love had been written like the rest of her books, this would’ve been a six star book, easily! I have NEVER given Colleen Hoover anything above 4.5 stars, and this would’ve been the first full marks I would’ve given her. (not that my rating matters to her much LOL) I am so torn.
I am so frustrated. I was deeply saddened when reading Ugly Love, sad because I loved so much of it, and then frustrated by the presentation of the story. In between all the short, studded sentences, there was this beautiful, heartbreaking and wholesome story that was killing me. Killing me with love and feels and emotion and oh my goodness, my heart. Oh my heart was broken, shattered in a million pieces.
It’s a rarity that you read a book and you not only do you love it, but you FEEL it.  It CONSUMES you. The story transports you somewhere, and for me, I felt like I was falling in love again. This never happens.
*sob*
This isn’t one of those reviews where I talk about the plot, the characters and connections, I don’t want to go there. It will just undo me. There are plenty of reviews out there that will tell you everything, but I advise not to read them. Ugly Love is full of surprises, love, emotion and devastation that you HAVE to experience them yourself, let Ugly Love unfold unto you.
