Come back to me. That was the very last thing I said to him.
Always. The very last thing he said to me.
Home on leave in sunny California, Marine and local lothario Kit Ryan finds himself dangerously drawn to his best friend's sister, Jessa - the one girl he can't have.
But Kit's not about to let a few obstacles stand in his way and soon Jessa's falling for his irresistible charms.
What starts out as a summer romance of secret hook-ups and magical first times quickly develops into a passionate love affair that turns both their worlds upside down.
When summer's over and it's time for Kit to redeploy, neither Kit nor Jessa are ready to say goodbye. Jessa's finally following her dreams and Kit's discovered there's someone he'd sacrifice everything for.
Jessa's prepared to wait for Kit no matter what. But when something more than distance and time rips them apart they're forced to decide whether what they have is really worth fighting for.
A breathtaking, scorchingly hot story about love, friendship, family and finding your way back from the edge of heartbreak.
Review:
Some of you may not know that Mila Gray is also Sarah Alderson, author of the Lila series, Hunting Lila is the first book. This is a YA series, scrap that, this is fantastic YA series that I feel is very overlooked. Sarah is a fabulous writer, so when Come back to Me landed on my doorstep, I was very excited to see what her alter ego is all about.
Have you ever seen that film, Practical Magic? (Sandra Bullock and she’s a witch) Well, there’s a part in that movie, Sandra is doing some gardening and she’s waiting for the clock to chime, and when it does, she just stops and runs through the town towards her husband, who, even though he can’t see her coming, his instincts tell him to turn and run for her. When they finally embrace, he lifts her, and in that moment they are one and cue the music. “it’s the way you love me, it’s a feeling like this, it’s centrifugal motion, it’s perpetual bliss. It’s that pivotal moment, it’s impossible. This kiss, this kiss, unstoppable.” That moment gives me the warm and fuzzies every single time, and this book reminded me SO much of those feelings. I’m not a soppy romantic, hey, I love, love like anyone, but it just takes a little something extra to get my heart pounding, and Come Back to Me did that!
Come Back to Me is a new adult romance, and it is wonderful! Truly, wonderful! This isn’t one of those predictable books where someone was abused by their parents or killed in some horrific car accident, this is something very special. Full of friendship, family loyalty, heartbreak, second chances and a unique forbidden romance. This book was full of emotion and it captured my heart from the very beginning.
Come Back to Me is full of stolen moments between a Marine, Kit Ryan and the one girl he loves but can’t have, Jessa. I’m a sucker for a military guy and his name is just perfect and sexy. I can honestly say, that from the get go, I was heavily invested with Kit, he immediately springs to life off the page, his emotions and personality shine through, he feels very real and I just wished that he was! I just love to hate it when an author makes me want a fictional character so bad! What is it about a military man falling in love eh?! If you love kind, caring, protective, loyal and funny men who check themselves for the woman they love then Kit Ryan is the one for you!
Now, Jessa I hated, with a passion…only because she could have Kit and not me LOL!
I really liked Jessa, she was kind, loved her family and she was a bit of a dreamer, she wanted more from her life and living with her military father often made her step back from her desires. She was a very sweet and likeable character, and the perfect match for Kit, she was the balance in Kit’s life.

One of my favourite things about Come Back to Me is the way the story is told, the prologue throws you right in there, and it immediately grips you, then you’re taken back to the past and slowly brought back to the present, ultimately ending with the most beautiful epilogue, a glimpse into the future. I just love it when an author shows us where two characters went with their lives. I knew this author had brilliant writing from reading her YA series, but this was just outstanding. Mila’s writing is lyrical, fluid, easy, addictive, heartbreaking and very, very real. These two characters and their story left me breathless, it was profound and a real love to get lost in.
I can not wait to see what Mila does next.
